Have you ever wondered what you do on the McCullough Girls Basketball Team? Students had the opportunity to try out to be in the basketball team. They practice different drills, scrimmages, and conditioning techniques. When interviewing students, they said their favorite part is meeting new people, making friends, and playing the sport.
Beigom Omar is a 7th grader at McCullough who is on the girls’ basketball B team, #22. She has been playing basketball for a little over a year and is excited to get the opportunity to play on the McCullough team. “…. I have never played on an organized sports team at school before and now I get to do it with a lot of my friends.” To join the team, students were required to try out. “The trial process is a three-day tryout as they test you on your skills and attitude.” There are 12 people with 2 managers on each team. The A team coach is Coach Clark, and the B team coach is Coach Lebouef. They practice every morning and are committed to winning their games. “We do many things in practices such as scrimmage to get better at offense and defense, drills to get better at controlling the ball, and running a lot to get conditioned so we aren’t as tired in the game.” So far, the B team has won against Knox, Irons, and Stockton and has lost against York, and Cooper. Beigom’s favorite part of being part of the basketball team is “…I get the chance to meet new people and make friends. It is also a lot of fun to play the sport.” Beigom recommends others to join a team or play basketball because, “…it is a great way to socialize and get conditioned.”
In summary, basketball is a great way to learn a new sport, stay fit, make friends and meet new people along the way. Are you part of a team and what are your thoughts about it?
