The McCullough Choir Experience

The McCullough Choir Experience

Have you been debating on joining the McCullough Choir? Here is what you need to know about what they do all year.

From competitions to practicing in class they work hard throughout the year. I interviewed Kyla Figueroa about her experience in choir this year. She is an 8th grader at McCullough Junior High. She was new this year in 8th grade at McC and decided to join the choir. McC has nine performing choirs currently that range from all skill levels. They audition to join the choir and are enrolled at the start of the school year.

I asked Kyla a few questions about choir and what they do during the year.  I asked her What do you do during class? “We work on many things. Such as warm-ups, learning new songs, going over music, and learning about the different kinds of music,” said Figueroa. Over the school year, you can see they work on many things during class. Right now, they are currently working on 3 new songs. One of them is Celebration. I asked her if they had any events coming up. She said, “We have Pop Show coming up soon.” I then asked her about out-of-school events and if choir took up a lot of her time. “Choir does not take up a lot of your time unless you are in a more advanced choir. Out-of-school events are optional. They often require auditions such as Region Choir.” said Figueroa.

My last question for her was do you enjoy choir. She replied, “Yes, it gives you the opportunity to meet new people and have many different experiences throughout your time in choir.” If you were debating joining choir that was what you should expect. Make sure to note it can take up your time but leads to cherished memories and friendships that last a lifetime.
