It’s Tuesday and you’re stuck in 3rd period. You wish you could work off your energy. An idea comes to your mind: RECESS!
When you were in elementary school, recess was the highlight of the day. Tag, basketball, recess had it all. But soon, recess disappeared. But why? Why did teachers take this away from us? Don’t worry, there is still hope! Recess has a ton of benefits that could fuel this much-needed revival.
I interviewed Sarah DeGeorge, an 8th grader and a proud recess advocate, about the benefits of recess. She said the best thing about recess was “socializing with your friends and not getting in trouble.” Teachers, if you’re reading this, if students have time to talk, then they will be less likely to talk in class.
The benefits of recess practically speak for themselves. Kids without exercise experience obesity and depression. Sometimes school can feel like a prison. That’s why some kids don’t feel like they should try in school. As a result, their grades plummet. That’s why recess could help kids bring their grades up. Sarah DeGeorge said, “Students would concentrate better.” With recess, kids could pass their classes and stay in shape.
Recess is beneficial in many ways. It can help kids pass their classes, get exercise, and socialize. That’s why recess needs to be brought back. Let’s band together and SAVE RECESS!!!
