Kindness is a Virtue

Kindness is a Virtue

How do you feel when someone helps you pick up your stuff that you dropped all over the floor, or when someone compliments your outfit, or even when someone just simply smiles at you as you walk by – I would guess good right? These simple acts of kindness can significantly impact someone’s day or maybe even life, depending on the situation. Imagine how our society could be if everyone did these small gestures or acts.

A girl named Katarina who is in 7th grade and goes to McCullough is the best person to interview when talking about kindness. She goes out of her way to help people even when it could take a few moments of her time. She doesn’t just stand and watch someone in need but goes and helps them. She has even won a couple of awards in honor of her kindness, such as the Maleficent Mustang Award and many Student Achieving Excellence awards as well. Katarina states, “It is important to be kind because one simple act of kindness can make a person’s day.” This statement is certainly true, you could have a big effect on people’s lives if only you open up and spread your kindness around.

“I always say if you have no talents or purpose in life, if you are at least kind, you will make it far.”– Katarina. Katarina truly believes in kindness and hopes that everybody can be kind as well someday. She believes that everybody has a little bit of kindness stored away in them that just needs to be unleashed. It doesn’t take much to be kind, and who knows the kindness may even come back to you someday. Katarina states, “Even if you’re having a really bad day, take a little bit of extra effort to smile at someone when they pass by. You’ll never know how much this simple act can impact their life.” If everybody would just be kind to each other than that would mean, fewer wars, less bullying, fewer school fights, etc. Kindness comes in all shapes and sizes. Some examples of simple acts of kindness are slipping nice notes in people’s lockers, saying please and thank you when you ask for stuff, helping people with their homework, or smiling at disabled kids and having nice regular conversations with them. Every time Katarina sees someone drop their stuff, she rushes over to help pick it up. She also makes sure to help people in need, such as throwing away someone’s trash who can’t physically throw it away themselves.

So next time you see someone in need, go rush over to them and help them. Think about Katarina and how she always makes sure to be kind to people. You never know how much these simple acts can impact people’s lives. Now go spread the kindness!
