Worth The Act

Worth+The+Act

Do you ever wonder what it is like to be in Theater 1 class? Many speculate if the elective is even worth a spot on their schedule, so I had Ellie La-Tour sit down with me to answer some of the most popular questions about the theater arts class.

Theater, to some, can be seen as a boring class or even a waste of time, but many others see it as a chance to connect with friends and have fun throughout the school day. 8th grader Ellie La-Tour thinks that “It is important to have a class where you aren’t hammered with work and kind of get to have fun with friends but still get a grade for it.” and many students, and I couldn’t agree more!

Having fun with friends is wonderful, but it is hard when you have a very strict or boring teacher. “Mrs.Murphy is my theater teacher and I do enjoy her teaching.” Ellie explained that Mrs.Murphy lets her class have fun, but also manages to keep them on track and get good grades.

“No, we do not really get any homework, which is one of the really good things about theater one,” Ellie noted. Not much homework is given, but she also says that they do get a good amount of work done in class.

Additionally, I asked Ellie what her absolute favorite parts of theater class are, and she said  “My favorite part of theater is probably rehearsing, because I get to spend time with friends and it’s really fun.”

Lastly, I asked Ellie what her major grades and performances look like, “We usually get the scene and the assignment, then we perform the class after or if it’s a big assignment, It would be a few classes after.” Having class periods to prepare for your major grade is always helpful and gives you lots of time to practice!

As you can tell, 8th-grade student Ellie La-Tour really enjoys theater and thinks it is definitely worth it. Theater gives you a chance to hang out with friends, a chance to perform and even a shot at learning the many different parts of theater.
