Vending Machines Need Innovation?

Vending+Machines+Need+Innovation%3F

Everyone loves vending machines, but do they run at necessary times, have healthy snacks, or have an accurate cost for items?

Vending machines are a great place to get snacks during the day when you need a little pick-me-up or just a little fuel to help you get through the day. I interviewed Celeste Rion, a 7th-grade girl from McCullough Jr. High, who shared her thoughts and beliefs on my topic while providing things she believes should change and stay the same.

I went on to ask Celeste about the most asked questions I have heard in the hallways, classrooms, and just the overall campus. She goes on to say, “The costs of the Vending machines are pretty fair because paying $1.50 is a good price for chips.” I agree with her because the snacks range from $1.00 to $2.00, which are very affordable, where you can still buy 2-3 things. I was also talking to Celeste about the time of day vending machines run and when she believes they should be running. She goes on to tell me why she believes they should be running through lunches, “They should be running through lunch because what if someone is still hungry or wants more snacks during lunch.” Just like me she believes that vending machines running through dismissal are very important, “Vending machines should be running after school and during dismissal because a lot of kids can get hungry waiting for late buses especially if they don’t have food with them or had an earlier lunch that day.”

The last thing I asked Celeste about was her opinion on healthy snacks in the vending machines. I believe that there needs to be healthier snack options so everyone has a fair pick of food and can get something they like and will eat. Celeste told me that she thinks that “There aren’t any healthy snacks in the vending machines but there should be more because they are better for you and your health than just junk.”
After interviewing Celeste Rion and getting a good idea of her thoughts about vending machines, I can conclude that vending machines are important to most kids but need to be running more during the day, and need healthier snack options.
